Never under estimate the power of a small person with tiny feet. Sometimes, small persons can go just right through you and hit you in the back without you seeing them. Or, maybe they'll step on your foot feeling all the pain. :)

La Carlota Experience

I. Introduction

Is it a crime to sleep late and wake up very early in the morning? Well, if it is, I'm a criminal. I slept very late at the night of August 4, the day before my La Carlota Experience. When I woke up, I turned off the alarm clock and watched the time. It was only 5:00 in my clock so I decided to sleep 30 minutes more. When the 30 minutes was over, I took a bath, get dressed and rechecked my mighty backpack if I forgot to put something. I then ate only 5 spoons of rice and viand for breakfast because in a few minutes, I'll be late.

Finally, I rode on a tricycle going to school and realized that only a few arrived there. "What a relief", I thought. It was already 6:30 am but still no sign of the bus. All of us thought that we will be leaving school at 6 am and what a shock, it was already 6:30 am! It was about 7 am when the two Cebro buses arrived in school. We then packed our things and went inside the bus. Teacher Darlene led the prayer in the Self-Control bus. After praying, most of us took out our music gadgets and enjoyed the music and most importantly, the trip.

II. Places

     A. Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or PHIVOLCS
We were taught here of how earthquakes were detected or were observed here in Negros Occidental.  We were also oriented of the places that may be in jeopardy if a volcano erupted and the kind of eruptions the volcano makes.

     B. University of the Philippines Los Baños- La Granja Research Center
We were oriented here of the center's system and how the system works. The speaker shared a lot of ideas about this research center. He also added a knowledge on how they culture a specific kind of fungus.

     C. Sugar Regulatory Administration
The speakers shared on how sugarcane was cultured in the lab and what are the steps involved in culturing it. They also shared about the equipment that are needed with the processes involved in their center. Last, we were welcomed to the Balay OPSI which was their "resort" type of place for us to enjoy the noon.

     D.  Provincial Veterinary Farn- La Carlota
This place has a lot of mooing cows! We got a chance to feed the cows and played with them tug-o-grass. Although the place has an awful smell, at the end of the day, you'll be immune with it.

     E. Le Grand Dairy Farm
The speaker told us of the steps involved with their milk production. He also told us of the ways on how to identify a safe milk. Best part, we got a chance to buy and try their milk.
GOT MILK?

III. Summary

We left school at around 7 am and is traveling towards our destination which is La Granja, La Carlota. All of us had fun during the trip. Our first informal destination when we arrived at La Carlota was at Jollibee. There we took time to eat and had our toilet break for another short trip towards our first formal destination which was at PHIVOLCS, La Carlota. We went up to the observation room where there are equipment to detect if there are any incoming earthquakes here in Negros Occidental. After the discussion of the one in charge in PHIVOLCS, we then had our group picture taken. After PHIVOLCS, we went back on the bus and had a short trip going to UPLB-LGRC. We went inside a function room and there the speaker discussed about their research center and their systems. Some of us bought an interesting fungus for us to observe on and for us to cook after it had grown. After the discussion, we went outside and had our group picture taken again.
After UPLB-LGRC, we went to SRA and had a discussion about their center and how their systems work. We were taken to specific areas with speakers discussing about the use of that area. We then went to Balay OPSI where we had our lunch and took time to enjoy ourselves and the rest of the noon. Some of my classmates went swimming and some just chilled and enjoyed the cool breeze. After lunch, we went to our last destination which was Provincial Veterinary Farm and Le Grand Dairy Farm. We got a chance to feed the cows with very long grasses. The cows and us did a game called "tug-o-grass". Everytime we feed the cows, they keep on pulling the long grass and well obviously pull us too. After the feeding of the cows, we went to Le Grand Dairy Farm and had a discussion with the person-in-charge. He told us of how they produce the milk and the steps involved in the production. After an educational trip, we went back on the buses and got ready to leave La Carlota. Many of us slept and got tired from the trip. After a bumpy ride, we arrived school at around 5 pm. What a great trip for us to learn!
